Mission: The Invisible Hand
Location: Starbase 11 | Planet M-11
Timeline: Before the Thunderbird's return to Starbase 11

[Starbase 11]

Walking through countless starbases, one always seemed like another. The main differences -and they were good ones- was if the station had unique sentients and unique food. After visiting billeting, finding his temporary quarters and dropping off his personal effects, Rynol Avem was now looking for something new, spicy, or sweet. The promenade stretched out before him. Large windows showed rocky vistas and a large ringed planet on the horizon. The weather had been pleasant as he disembarked from the shuttle. The pilot had informed him the planet’s name was a bland M-11. Looking at it now, he would have named it Miira, in Barzan it meant barren skies. That was an omen. Barza had heavy cloud cover. Cloudless skies were an anomaly. Whether the omen was good or bad, remained to be seen. If you believed the superstitions.

Rynol patted his short dark hair down in place. Up ahead was a restaurant, the Voyager. He walked up and read the posted menu. Vulcan, Klowahkan, and Human dishes. Intriguing. He found a seat at a small table facing the promenade. After a minute, a short Betazoid waitress approached. She introduced herself and handed him a paper menu.

“Welcome to Voyager. We have some really fresh salmon shark.” She noticed Rynol’s brow crease. “It’s a carnivorous fish native to Earth’s northern ocean. But if you’re looking for a meatless delicacy instead, I’d recommend the Vulcan Tevmel. Unsalted. And fresh. It’s been very popular. I’ll give you a few minutes to look over the menu.” She gave him a smile and headed back into the restaurant.

Ultimately, Rynol went with the Vulcan Tevmel. For Vulcan cuisine, he found it very flavorful. But that could have been courtesy of the chef and their creativity. The doctor thanked the waitress and after being prompted, promised he would recommend their restaurant to his friends. He didn’t mention that all his friends were still onboard the USS Edison, and many light years away. For now, he knew no one on this planet or on his new ship, the USS Thunderbird. But he knew that wouldn’t be the case for long. This was his fifth assignment. Moving and changing ships was part of Starfleet life. He found making friends wasn’t terribly difficult. And having one restaurant to recommend was a great start to a conversation. If he was lucky, he might find someone who enjoyed board games. Or maybe someone to date. But one step at a time. The Thunderbird was away on a mission but would be returning soon. Then he’d have the opportunity to meet his new captain and first officer, but even more important, the CMO. Doctor Avem had read up about his new department head and was excited to see how he would fit in. Vulcans appreciated efficiency and so did Rynol.

He stood up, waved a goodbye and started walking Starbase 11’s planetary facilities.
