Personal History Born in 2344, Vesper was named after her parents, Vesune and Perry, and grew up in a poor but relatively happy household on Freecloud. Presents were always hand-made. Salvaged junk found new life in the Dunne household. She was happy ... until the arrest. Her telepathy, which manifested at a young age, gave her an edge in her (limited) interactions with others and acted more as a warning mechanism. She could (literally) hear problems long before they got close to her. It was a clear rule in her household that her parents minds were off limits -- that seemed reasonable. Fair. She learned to control her telepathy and by the time she was old enough to understand, she'd already reached the point where she never pried.

At thirteen, she entered the school system. The odd kid who understood everything but never spoke. In an area where no one had much, she was considered the poorest of the poor. An outsider. And this, she saw in their heads almost at once. Still, she found a way to slide unnoticed through the corridors, to avoid problems by using her telepathy as a sort of early warning system, and most importantly, to use what the school offered to learn and grow. Her favorite courses were astronomy and literature.

At sixteen, her father got a transport job and for the first time in her life, she left Freecloud behind. She would sit for hours at the viewport, looking out at the stars, or standing behind her father, watching the controls and imagining that it was she flying the ship. Because the flights were long and her father loved to talk, he taught her the controls and by the time, they entered Earth space, she felt as though she could fly the ship herself. She was happier than she'd ever been.

Two years aboard the freighter and then, it all fell apart. Her father delivered a cargo to Earth and her parents were excited to show her the world of their birth. She was amazed at how clean everything was. How safe. How ... beautiful. There was technology everywhere and a thousand questions popped into her head. She was the glances her parents exchanged but shrugged it off. If they didn't tell her, she would not pry.

That was a mistake. On their first night, after a long eventful day, they stopped at a local restaurant for dinner before heading back to the ship, when her parents were approached by security and, after questioning, arrested on the charge of kidnapping.

Her. Kidnapping her.

That's when she found out that biologically she was Ramatisian; attempts at reaching her biological family were unsuccessful. She was alone on a world she didn't know and at the age of seventeen going on eighteen, she was given sanctuary and helped to understand what had happened. Just shortly after her eighteenth birthday, Starfleet introduced itself to her.

The Academy was difficult. No question. Her student com-badge was augmented to amplify her voice and while she used it for classes, she turned it off every chance she got. To her ears, she sounded alien and unnatural, as though she were being put on display. She loved her courses and it seemed piloting was a perfect way for her to serve.
